Malone Barnes & Spontaneous Simplicity is a musical collaboration formed by singer and songwriter Johnny Malone and saxophonist and flautist Allan Barnes. The two met while studying at Howard University in Washington, DC, during the 1960s. Their partnership produced the album "Freedom Serenade," named after a tune by Sun-Ra. Following the album's release, family commitments led Barnes to relocate to the West Coast, while Malone pursued work with Carl Pope.
