The Mamas and The Papas were a musical group formed after the original trio's breakup, initially performing as the New Journeymen. In 1965, the members traveled to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands to write and rehearse, eventually relocating to Los Angeles where they signed with Lou Adler’s Dunhill label. After briefly calling themselves the Magic Circle, they adopted the name The Mamas and The Papas. The group disbanded in 1968 but reunited briefly in 1971. In 1982, a reformed version included founding member Denny Doherty along with new members Mackenzie Phillips, daughter of John Phillips, and Elaine “Spanky” McFarlane, a longtime friend. Another iteration of the band, featuring only John Phillips from the original lineup, released the live album 'California Dreamin: Live in Concert' in 1995. The Mamas and The Papas were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
