**Bio: Manfred Mann** Born on October 21, 1940, in Johannesburg, South Africa, Manfred Mann began playing piano at the age of five. Dissatisfied with the situation in his home country, he moved to the UK in 1961. He was soon hired for a band that would become the Mann-Hugg Blues Brothers. In 1963, after signing a contract, the band was renamed to Manfred Mann. They achieved a series of pop hits throughout the 1960s but disbanded in 1969 despite their commercial success. Later that year, Mann and Hugg formed a Jazz-Rock group that released two albums but disbanded in late 1970 due to lack of success. Mann then turned towards rock music and formed Manfred Mann's Earth Band (MMEB) in 1971. Known for his use of the Moog synthesizer, Mann became recognized as one of the best Moog players in the world. MMEB enjoyed success during the mid-70s and early 80s but was disbanded by Mann in 1987, as he grew frustrated with the pressure to produce hit records. He then started a project focused on the music of Native American Indians, which released one record. Mann reformed the MMEB in 1991, and the band continues to release records and tour extensively in Europe to this day.
