The Manhattans were a soul vocal group formed in 1962 in New Jersey, U.S. Initially a quintet, they began recording in 1964 and continued into the early 70s until they signed with a label in 1973, where they achieved their biggest hits up to 1986. The group remained active until 2010. In 1970, a new lead singer replaced the original member who tragically passed away from a brain tumor two days before his 31st birthday. Another member left the group in 1976, and they continued as a quartet. In 1988, one more member departed to pursue a solo career. Their most notable songs include the classic smooth soul ballad "Kiss And Say Goodbye," produced in 1976, and "Shining Star," produced in 1980. All original members are now deceased except for one.
