Ricardo Baliardo, widely known as Manitas de Plata (Little Hands of Silver), was a celebrated flamenco guitarist, recognized as one of the most renowned in the world during the 1960s. Born on August 7, 1921, in a Gypsy (Gitano) caravan in Sète, southern France, he came from an extended family involved in flamenco music. He was the father of several children. In 1964, Pablo Picasso famously remarked upon hearing him play, "that man is of greater worth than I am!" Manitas de Plata passed away on November 5, 2014, in Montpellier, France.
