Mannheim Steamroller is a New Age band co-founded by Chip Davis and Jackson Berkey. The band's name is derived from an 18th-century musical technique known as crescendo. Their albums showcase a diverse range of instruments, from harpsichord to synthesizer, with a strong emphasis on strings. Chip Davis is responsible for composing, arranging, and playing drums, while Jackson Berkey and his wife Almeda Berkey handle most of the keyboard work. Other permanent members include Ron Cooley (guitar), Eric Hansen (bass), Steven Shipps and Arnold Roth (strings), Roxanne Layton (percussion and woodwinds), and Chuck Pennington (conductor).
