Marcell Strong is a talented saxophonist, writer, and vocalist hailing from East St. Louis, Illinois. He began his musical journey singing in his local church and was influenced by the vibrant R&B scene in his hometown. Strong recorded his first record for the small Emerge label in the mid-1960s. In 1970, he wrote the song "Listen Mumble In My Ear," which would become his signature tune. Although he initially intended it for Clarence Carter, who recorded it in 1971 and took it to number 33 on the R&B charts, Strong also recorded the song with the Fame Gang. This success led to a songwriting contract with Rick Hall, but after a falling out, Strong did not release any further music or write additional songs during that period. It wasn't until 1978 that Strong returned to recording, when local singer and record producer Sid Wallace brought him into the studio. This session resulted in the release of an album titled "Two Soul Chiefs," which was available only in the UK and featured tracks solely written by Strong, including a re-recording of "Trying To Make Up."
