**Marcos Resende** was a Brazilian keyboardist and songwriter born in Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, ES, in 1947 and passed away in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2020. A musical prodigy, he began playing the accordion at the age of two and taught himself the piano by six. Despite his talent, Resende traveled to Lisbon in the 1960s to study medicine while continuing to pursue music. He formed a trio that opened for Dexter Gordon at the Cascais Jazz Festival in 1971. Following this, he established the electronic-oriented prog-jazz group Status, which opened for notable artists such as Elton John and Art Blakey, though they did not produce any known recordings. After returning to Brazil post-Portugal’s Revolução dos Cravos in 1974, Resende was inspired by US jazz and British progressive rock. He acquired an impressive array of keyboards, including the Prophet 5 and Mini Moog, and formed a new quartet with Rubão Sabino, Claudio Caribé, and Oberdan Magalhães. They recorded a self-titled debut at Sonoviso Studios, but Resende felt that record companies undervalued his work and the significance of their recording.
