Marcos Resende was a talented musician who initially pursued a medical degree in Lisbon during the 1960s, while also nurturing his passion for music. He formed a trio that opened for jazz legend Dexter Gordon at the Cascais Jazz Festival in 1971. Following this, he established the electronic-oriented prog-jazz group Status, which shared the stage with notable artists such as Elton John, Phil Woods, Stan Getz, and Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, though they did not leave behind any known recordings. Resende returned to Brazil as a highly regarded keyboardist, composer, and innovative electronic musician, driven by his inspirations from US jazz and British progressive rock. He amassed a collection of keyboards, including the Prophet 5, Yamaha CP-708, and Mini Moog, and formed a new quartet featuring Rubão Sabino (bass), Claudio Caribé (drums), and the late Oberdan Magalhães. They recorded a self-titled debut at Sonoviso Studios with renowned sound engineer Toninho Barbosa. Despite receiving offers to release the album, Resende felt that record companies were undervaluing his efforts and the significance of the recording. The album was eventually released in 2021, shortly after his passing from stomach cancer on November 12, 2020, at the age of 73. In 1978, Resende & Index, with a different lineup except for Magalhães, released the notable album Festa Para Um Novo
