Marek Grechuta was a Polish singer, composer, lyricist, and poet, born on December 10, 1945, in Zamość and passing away on October 9, 2006, in Kraków. He studied architecture at the Polytechnic University in Kraków, where he met composer Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz. Together, they founded the student cabaret Anawa in 1967, the same year Grechuta won second place in the VI National Contest of Student Musicians and received an award for his song "Tango Anawa." Throughout his career, Grechuta gained recognition at the Festival of Polish Music in Opole, winning several awards starting in 1968. He also appeared in a minor role in Andrzej Wajda's film "Polowanie na muchy" (Hunting Flies) in 1969. In 1971, he left Anawa to form the band WIEM (W Innej Epoce Muzycznej). Grechuta was known for his poetic and literary approach to music, co-authoring the music for the theater production "Exodus" at the STU Theater in Kraków in 1974 and collaborating on the musical adaptation of Stanisław Witkiewicz's "Szalona Lokomotywa" in 1977.
