Marfil, born on December 8, 1919, in Liborina, Antioquia, Colombia, was a Colombian singer, musician, and composer. He began his working life in Medellin, selling newspapers after leaving his hometown in search of a better future. His passion for singing, music, and art led him to Bogotá, where he joined an opera company. In the 1940s, he moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he married Olga Cagnolly and continued to develop his musical career, living the rest of his life in the Argentine capital. Throughout his career, he created various musical groups, including Los Caucanos and Los Marfiles. He also used several aliases for songwriting rights, including Marfil, Jorge David, Antonio de Jesús, Leobardo, Gina Moldi, and Edmee Edia Cagnoli. Marfil passed away on December 10, 1986, in Buenos Aires.
