Margareth Menezes, born on October 13, 1962, in Salvador, Bahia, is a Brazilian singer known for her axé style, which also incorporates elements of samba, MPB, African rhythms, and reggae. She gained significant recognition in Brazil with her hit song "Me Abraça e Me Beija" in 1990 and later achieved another success with "Dandalunda," which became the unofficial anthem of the 2003 Salvador carnival. While Menezes has reached superstardom in Bahia, her success has been more moderate in the broader Brazilian music scene. She is celebrated for her energetic live performances and frequently tours, especially during carnival celebrations.
