María Elena Walsh was a renowned Argentine writer and singer, born on February 1, 1930, in Ramos Mejía, Buenos Aires, and she passed away on January 10, 2011, in Buenos Aires. She was the daughter of an English father and an Argentine mother of Andalusian descent, and she is primarily celebrated for her contributions to children's literature and music. Her literary career began in 1947 with the publication of her first book. From 1952 to 1956, she lived in exile in Paris, where she formed the folk duo "Leda & María" with Leda Valladares, releasing several records between 1953 and 1963. In addition to her work for children, Walsh also wrote songs and recitals for adults, which were recorded and released in her solo records from 1963 to 1976. Her songs for adults have been performed by various artists, solidifying her legacy in both children's and adult music.
