Maria Kelly, born on June 11, 1933, in Potenza, Italy, was a renowned jazz vocalist who debuted in 1956 after signing with the CGD record company. She recorded notable songs such as "Me piace sta vucchella" and "Quanno me parlano 'e te." In 1959, she transitioned to Phonotype, releasing various 45s drawn from the Naples and Sanremo Festival repertoires. Her talent was recognized at the Maggio Canoro Napoletano festival in 1961, where she received critical acclaim for her interpretation of "Tramonto a Napoli." In 1964, she participated in the 12th Festival di Napoli, performing "Cchiù luntano da luna" alongside Michele Accidenti. The following year, after her appearance in the Barca D'Oro organized by "L'Eco della Ribalta," she focused her career abroad, particularly in North America. In the late 1960s, she moved to Switzerland, where she became a regular guest on television shows, showcasing a repertoire that blended ancient Neapolitan ballads and jazz classics. In 1970, she participated in Piedigrottissima with the song "'A canzone da felicità," based on Ernesto Murolo's work, and continued to participate in the festival in subsequent years.
