María Sabina (July 22, 1894 - November 23, 1985) was a Mexican-Mazatec shaman and curandera from Huautla de Jiménez, Oaxaca, Mexico. She dedicated her life to healing practices in the Sierra Mazateca, where she lived in a modest dwelling. Her work involved the use of various species of native psilocybe mushrooms, and she performed long, trance-induced incantations.
