Maria W Horn is a Swedish composer and experimental musician, born on July 28, 1989, in Bergum, Göteborg, Västergötland. She grew up in Härnösand, Ångermanland, and has been based in Stockholm since 2011. Horn explores various aspects of human perception in her work, investigating psychoacoustic phenomena, audiovisuality, and the effects of perceptual stimuli on altered mental states. She is a member of the Sthlm Drone Society, which promotes slowly and gradually developing timbral music, and co-runs a record label established in 2025, registered as a non-profit association since December 7, 2016. Horn has formal studies in electroacoustic composition and has performed across Europe and the Americas, with notable appearances at MUTEK México, Insomnia Festival in Tromsø, Stanford Live, and various venues in Berlin, Funchal, Parma, and Montreal. Her commissions include an audiovisual work, "Epistasis" for string quartet and electronics, a sound and light installation for Scenkonstmuseet, music for the Greek tragedy Phaedra/Hippolytos at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, and music for a frequency-controllable Tesla coil in collaboration with Thunderstruck.
