Marinês (16 November 1935 - 14 May 2007) was a Brazilian singer and songwriter known for her contributions to forró, baião, and xaxado music. Born to a seresteiro father, she began her career in the band Patrulha de Choque do Rei do Baião, which she formed with her husband, accordionist Abdias, and zabumbeiro Cacau. Marinês performed at the opening concerts of prominent shows and collaborated with major figures in Northeastern music. She was affectionately dubbed the "Luiz Gonzaga of skirts" and learned xaxado from him. With the support of influential figures in the music industry, her career gained momentum, leading her to be known as "The Queen of Xaxado." Marinês recorded her first album in 1956, which was released the following year.
