Marinês (16 November 1935 - 14 May 2007) was a Brazilian singer and songwriter known for her contributions to forró, baião, and xaxado music. Born to a seresteiro father, she began her career in the band King of Baião Shock Patrol, which she formed with her husband, the accordionist Abdias, and the zabumbeiro Cocoa. They performed at the opening concerts of various shows. Marinês collaborated with prominent figures in Northeastern music, including the "King of Baião," who nicknamed her "Luiz Gonzaga in skirts" and taught her the xaxado dance. With the support of key figures in the music industry, Marinês's career gained momentum, earning her the title "The Queen of Xaxado." She recorded her first album in 1956, which was released the following year.
