Marko Melkon Alemsherian (1895, Smyrna, Turkey - 1963, New York, US) was a notable oud player, known for his contributions to Middle Eastern and belly dance music in the United States. An ethnic Armenian born in Izmir, Turkey, he moved to America in 1921 after spending time in Greece to avoid military service in the Ottoman army. Melkon's songs primarily featured lyrics in Turkish, and he was also proficient in singing in Greek.
