Marpessa Dawn was an American actress, singer, and dancer, born on January 3, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. She gained prominence for her role in the film "Orfeu Negro" (Black Orpheus), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Marpessa passed away on August 25, 2008, in Paris, France. It is noted that the song "Manhã de Carnaval" was recorded by a Brazilian singer and was wrongly credited to her.
