Marshall Allen is an American free jazz alto saxophonist, born on May 25, 1924, in Louisville, Kentucky. He is known for his performances on flute, oboe, piccolo, and the electronic valve instrument (EVI) made by the Akai company. Allen is best recognized for his long association with Sun Ra, which began in the late 1950s and continued until Ra's death. Afterward, Allen has taken on the role of leading the Sun Ra Arkestra. He studied in Paris after being discharged from the US Army and later played under a different name.
