Marta Kubisová
Marta Kubisová is a Czech vocalist, actress, and TV presenter, born on November 1, 1942, in České Budějovice (former Czechoslovakia). She became the most popular female pop singer in Czechoslovakia during the late 1960s, winning the Zlatý slavík (Golden Nightingale) reader award in 1966, 1968, and 1969. Kubisová was on the verge of launching a recording career in West Germany and France when she was banned by the communist regime for political reasons in 1970, which prohibited her from performing in public until November 1989. In the late 1970s and 1980s, she was a signatory and spokeswoman for the dissident civic movement Charter 77. After the political changes, she returned to singing in 1990 and continued her career until 2017.
