Martim Codax was a 13th-century Galician troubadour (or jogral) whose works stand among the most significant surviving examples of medieval Galician-Portuguese lyric poetry. Celebrated for his *cantigas de amigo*—songs expressing longing and devotion from a female perspective—Codax’s music and verse capture the lyrical elegance and emotional depth of early Iberian culture. His compositions, preserved in the *Pergaminho Vindel*, are among the few medieval pieces with both text and musical notation intact, offering rare insight into the artistry of the troubadour tradition.
