Martins do Pandeiro, born Ivanildo Martins on July 8, 1929, in Lagoa dos Gatos, Pernambuco, Brazil, developed a passion for music through the embolada's côco style. At 16, he moved to Recife, where he began performing with regional groups. In the 1950s, he played at Tamandaré Radio as part of Maestro Guedes Peixoto's Orchestra, gaining recognition as Martins do Pandeiro. He worked for many years at Rádio Clube e Jornal de Pernambuco, where he had the opportunity to accompany notable musicians such as Luiz Gonzaga, Sivuca, Ary Lobo, and Gordurinha. In 1960, he established a regional ensemble called Os Cabras do Baião, which recorded two LPs.
