Marv Johnson was an American R&B singer, songwriter, and pianist, born on October 15, 1938, in Detroit, MI. He played a significant role in the development of the Motown style of music, most notably with his song "Come to Me," which was the first record released by Tamla Records, the precursor to the famous Motown label. Although he achieved early success in the United States, Johnson found greater popularity overseas, particularly in the United Kingdom and Australia. He passed away on May 16, 1993, in Columbia, SC.
