The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in the fall of 1960 in Inkster, Michigan. They gained prominence with their 1961 hit "Please Mr. Postman," which set the stage for future Motown girl groups and contributed to Motown's success. The group disbanded in 1970. The lineup included Wanda Young Rogers and Katherine Anderson from 1961 to 1970, along with Georgia Dobbins in 1961, Wyanetta Cowart from 1961 to 1963, Georgeanna Tillman from 1961 to 1965, Gladys Horton from 1961 to 1967, and Anne Bogan from 1967 to 1970. Notably, in 1962, Supreme Florence Ballard temporarily toured with The Marvelettes to fill in for Wanda Young during her pregnancy.
