Marvin Gaye was an American singer-songwriter and musician, renowned for his three-octave vocal range. Born on April 2, 1939, in Washington, D.C., he began his career as a member of a group in the late fifties before venturing into a solo career after the group disbanded in 1960. He signed with a subsidiary of Motown Records. Gaye was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 as a Performer. He was the brother of [sibling name] and the father of [child name].
