Mary Lou Williams was an influential American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger. Born on May 8, 1910, in Atlanta, Georgia, she became a prominent figure in the jazz scene, known for her innovative style and contributions to the genre. Williams was a key player in the development of bebop and worked with many notable musicians throughout her career, including Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. She was also a mentor to younger musicians and played a significant role in promoting jazz education. Williams passed away on May 28, 1981.
