Mary Saxton is a soul singer hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She began her career in the mid-1960s, initially signing with Pace Records before moving to Birchmount and Quality later in the decade. During this time, she performed with the band Daisy Hill Puppy Farm alongside Mo Boyer, Mavis McCauley, and Bob Ego. In 1967/68, she was also part of the studio act Rising Sun, which included Barry Allen and members of Southern Freeway and The Lords. In 1971, Saxton co-founded The Elastic Band with Gerry Ford, Al Girard, Lennie Buc, and Don Brown, a group that lasted until 1973. Following this, she returned to her solo career and became the first artist signed to Mustard in the 1970s, releasing an album produced and written by Karl Erickson and Norman Rooke. In 1979, she joined the disco act Touché as one of three female singers, alongside Nancy Nash and Rosiland Keene, and in 1980, she participated in the all-female vocal project Ladies In Lights.
