Mary Wells was an American singer born on May 13, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. She was instrumental in defining the emerging sound of Motown in the early 1960s and became one of the label's first superstars, earning the title "The Queen of Motown" before her departure in 1964. Mary Wells passed away on July 28, 1992, at the Kenneth Norris Jr. Cancer Hospital in Los Angeles, California.
