Matia Bazar is an Italian Pop/Rock band that was formed in 1975 by founding members Piero Cassano (keyboards), Aldo Stellita (bass), Carlo Marrale (guitar, vocals), Giancarlo Golzi (drums), and Antonella Ruggiero (vocals). The band's name was inspired by Ruggiero's nickname, Matia, meaning "little crazy." Ruggiero departed from the band in 1989, followed by Marrale in 1994. Stellita passed away in 1998, and Golzi in 2015. Cassano, the last original member, had left the band in 1981 due to artistic differences but returned in 2000, only to leave again in 2017. The current live band is led by Fabio Perversi, who joined in 1998, along with a new group of musicians. Current members include Luna Dragonieri (vocals), Pier Carlo Tanzi (drums), Silvio Melloni (bass), Gino Zandonà (guitar), and Fabio Perversi (keyboards, violin).
