Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1922, he began his professional career in 1941 with the Orquestra do Maestro Gaó. Throughout his extensive career, Santos collaborated with renowned orchestras and artists, including the Orquestra do Maestro Simão Boutman and the Orquestra Tabajara under Maestro Severino Araújo. In the 1950s, he released two notable albums: "Convite para Dançar – Maurílio, Seu Piston com Conjunto" (1958) and its sequel in 1959, featuring a blend of Brazilian sambas and international classics. Santos was also a founding member of SOCINPRO, advocating for intellectual property rights in Brazil.
