**Bio: Mavi Işıklar** Mavi Işıklar, which translates to "Blue Lights" in English, was a Turkish beat/cover band formed in 1964 and disbanded in 1970. Often referred to as the "Turkish Beatles," they were known for their clean performances of beat and rock music, primarily covering contemporary Beat and R&B songs, as well as folk music arrangements and Turkish adaptations. The band's Turkish lyrics for these adaptations were initially penned by various writers. The band originated as the Istanbul Boys' High School Vocal Band at İstanbul Erkek Lisesi. Their lineup from 1962 to 1966 included vocals, drums, bass guitar, piano/keyboards, and guitar. In 1964, Mavi Işıklar participated in the Altın Mikrofon Song Contest, winning second prize, which led to the release of their single "Helvacı/Kanamam" by Hürriyet. They followed this with the recording of "Johnny Be Goode/Justine" for Odeon. In 1966, they again placed second in the Altın Mikrofon Song Contest and released "Çayır Çimen Geze Geze/Pınarbaşı." Despite their hard music style, they gained appreciation from conservative music critics, largely due to their neat visual appearances in suit uniforms.
