Maximum Joy is a band formed in 1979 by Janine Rainforth, who serves as the singer and plays the violin and clarinet, along with Tony Wrafter, a saxophonist and trumpeter previously associated with another Bristol band. The founding members also include Charlie Llewellin on drums, John Waddington on guitar, and Dan Catsis on bass, all of whom had prior connections with other bands like Glaxo Babies and The Pop Group. Later additions to the band included Kevin Evans (Ebo) on bass, Jeremy Hirsch on keys and trumpet, and Nellee Hooper on percussion and backing vocals. Maximum Joy reformed in 2015 to perform at Simple Things in Bristol, with Rainforth leading the reformation and subsequently forming a new band.
