Maybe Mental was a largely forgotten post-industrial act formed in Arizona in 1982 by David Oliphant. They are likely best known for their split 1987 LP entitled 'Halved'. The group excelled in the atmospheric industrial genre, producing notable works such as their 1985 cassette release, 'To Cease Burning', which showcased a textural post-industrial landscape filled with tonal fragments, cinematic noise, and fractured collages. This release continues to resonate with modern experimental outfits. Their early cassette releases explored traditional noise and power electronics, but later recordings incorporated field recordings, found tapes, and diverse influences. This evolution culminated in their landmark 1987 LP, 'Lotuses On Fire', which marked the group's interest in rich multi-cultural instrumentation and ritual textures. Following this, Oliphant and the band released a series of meditational, tribal, and percussive tapes and CDs, including collaborations with other transcendent artists.
