**MC 900 Ft. Jesus (Real Name: Griffin)** is an American musician and rapper born in 1957 in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He retired from the music industry between 2001 and 2017. His stage name was inspired by a sermon from televangelist Oral Roberts, who claimed to have received a vision of a 900-foot-tall Jesus commanding him to build a hospital at Oral Roberts University. Griffin's first full-length release as MC 900 Ft. Jesus was "Hell with the Lid Off" in 1990, which marked his debut on a major record label and included the cult-favorite single "Truth Is Out Of Style." The following year, he released "Welcome To My Dream" (1991), featuring the single "The City Sleeps," which explored the mind of a serial arsonist and sparked controversy in Baltimore due to a report linking the song to a series of arsons. His final album, "One Step Ahead Of The Spider," was released in 1994 and included the single "If I Only Had A Brain," which became his best-known song, gaining increased exposure from a music video directed by Spike Jonze and from MTV's "Beavis and Butt-Head." DJ Zero, who appears on the album, is credited under his real name, Patrick Rollins, due to uncertainty about touring.
