Mecki Mark is a Swedish psychedelic prog band that originated from the dance band Mecki Mark 5 in 1967. The group gained recognition for their experimental jazz and made a significant breakthrough at the experimental jazz festival in Stockholm in July 1967. They debuted with the single "Midnight Land" and made their television debut later that year on the program Popside. Led by keyboardist and vocalist Mecki Bodemark, the band is regarded as one of the first major Swedish psychedelic acts. In 1968, they released their eponymous album, but Bodemark soon parted ways with the group to collaborate with a trio. That same year, they supported prominent acts at Stockholm’s Concert House and during a Swedish tour. In 1969, they released a second album titled “Running in the Summer Night,” made several TV appearances, and participated in the Swedish cast of the popular musical “Hair.” The following year, they embarked on a U.S. tour, performing at various rock festivals. However, the tour ended in chaos as they faced visa issues and financial difficulties, leading them to return home after three months. They settled their debts by recording a third album, “Marathon,” before disbanding. Most of the members later regrouped as another band. In 1979, they released a fourth album under their original name, featuring Mecki Bodemark as the only original member.
