Mel & Tim were a musical duo consisting of cousins Mel Hardin and Tim McPherson, hailing from Holly Springs, Mississippi. They were discovered by Gene Chandler in Chicago and, in 1969, Mel's mother, Yolanda Hardin, signed them to her label. Their debut single, "Backfield in Motion," achieved gold status with over one million sales. In 1971, they recorded "Starting All Over Again" at Muscle Shoals sound studio under the guidance of Barry Beckett, with the master later acquired by Stax Records. This marked the beginning of a series of hits for the duo, helping to fill the void left by Sam & Dave after their split with Atlantic in 1968. Tragically, Tim passed away in 1986.
