Mel Smith was a British comedian and film director, born in London on December 3, 1952. He passed away on July 20, 2013. Smith gained fame for his roles in the TV series "Not The Nine O'Clock News" and "Alas Smith And Jones," which he starred in alongside Griff Rhys Jones. In 1981, he co-founded a production company that became one of the leading TV production companies in the UK. Additionally, he achieved a hit single in 1987 as part of the duo Mel & Kim with "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree."
