Mel Tillis (August 8, 1932 - November 19, 2017) was an American country singer, songwriter, guitarist, drummer, and violinist, born in Dover, Tampa, Florida. He was known for his stuttering speech and was backed by the band The Statesiders. Mel was married and had two children who are also country music singers and songwriters. He appeared in films such as W.W. & the Dixie Dancekings, Smokey & the Bandit II, Uphill All The Way, and Murder In Music City. Throughout his career, he owned several publishing companies and achieved six #1 hits on the Country charts. In 2007, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
