Melba Montgomery was an American country singer and songwriter, born on October 14, 1938, in Iron City, Tennessee. She was the sister of notable figures in the music industry. Montgomery had a successful career, with six of her written or co-written songs charting, including "We Must Have Been Out of Our Minds," which she performed with another artist, reaching #3 on the U.S. Country chart in 1963. Additionally, she co-wrote "What Do You Say to That," performed by George Strait, which hit #4 on the same chart in 1999. As a duo, she charted seven times on the country charts with another artist, and six times with a different collaborator, including the song "Something to Brag About," which reached #18 in 1970. Melba Montgomery passed away on January 15, 2025. Her BMI IPI number is 21324046.
