Mellow Madness is a soul group from Fayetteville, North Carolina, formed in the early 1980s by two educators, Frank McNeil, a high school principal, and Malachi Sharpe, a high school band teacher. They established a music school to teach talented young music students. The band was a resident act at the Raddison Hotel in Fayetteville, where, due to their young ages, they were required by law to leave the hotel before the lounge closed.
