Mental Aardvarks was an experimental music project from Wigan, UK, formed in 1979 and active until 1982. The project was primarily led by Paul, who often recorded alone, with occasional guest contributions. Their music was mostly acoustic and created using overdubs on a low-quality 2-track tape machine. During their brief existence, Mental Aardvarks released three tapes on their label, Trazom. According to Paul, he only sold one copy of each tape to a buyer in Norway, making these recordings extremely rare; he no longer possesses any of the material. Many of their tracks were played by the pirate radio station Merseyland Alternative Radio, and they eventually caught the attention of a label that included two of their tracks on a classic compilation. Notably, these two tracks were recorded in 1979 when Paul was just 13 years old.
