Mestre Bimba, born Manuel dos Reis Machado in 1900, was a Brazilian capoeira master and one of the most influential figures in the development of modern capoeira. He is credited with formalizing the practice and creating the "Capoeira Regional" style, which incorporated elements of ballet and other martial arts. Mestre Bimba played a significant role in elevating capoeira from an underground activity to a respected cultural practice in Brazil. He founded the first capoeira school in 1932 and is celebrated for his contributions to the art form, including its music and philosophy. He passed away in 1974, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of capoeira.
