Métal Urbain was a short-lived yet influential French punk band from Paris, active primarily in the late seventies. They were pioneers in combining drum machines with electric guitars and synthesizers, marking them as one of the first acts to do so. Additionally, they were the inaugural band to release a record on the Rough Trade label and were among the few French groups to record with renowned DJ John Peel. The band's lineup evolved over the years: From June 1976 to May 1977, the members included Clode Panik on vocals, Eric Débris on synthesizer, Zip Zinc on synthesizer, and Rikky Darling on guitar. Between May 1977 and December 1978, the lineup featured Clode Panik on vocals, Eric Débris on synthesizer, Hermann Schwartz on guitar, and Pat Lüger on guitar. From December 1978 to July 1979, Eric Débris took over vocals and synthesizer, with Hermann Schwartz and Pat Lüger on guitar. In the period from July 1979 to February 1980, the lineup included Eric Débris on vocals, Charlie H. on synthesizer, Hermann Schwartz on guitar, and Pat Lüger on guitar. In 1982, the band saw a lineup of Eric Débris on vocals, Charlie H. on synthesizer, and Rikky Darling on guitar. Though their time was brief, Métal Urbain left a lasting impact on the punk scene.
