Mezzoforte is an Icelandic instrumental jazz-funk/fusion band formed in 1977. They signed a record deal with an Icelandic label and achieved notable success with their biggest hit single, "Garden Party," released in 1983 from their fourth album, "Surprise Surprise." The song peaked at number 17 in the UK Singles Chart, featuring a flugelhorn solo played by English trumpeter. "Garden Party" was later covered at a slower speed by another artist who learned the track from a misplayed single. Additionally, the band's single "Rockall" spent one week at number 75 in the UK Singles Chart in June of the same year and was used as a signature tune by several European radio chart shows. The band's name, Mezzoforte, is derived from the traditional musical term meaning "moderately loud."
