MHE (Machines Have Emotions) is an American production team based in San Diego, California, consisting of members Michael Raymond Russell (MRR) and Adam Douglas Manella (ADM). The group was formed in 1999, originally featuring Michael Raymond Russell and former member William Benjamin Bensussen. MHE has collaborated with various artists and evolved into a collective known as Dirtydrums, which is now defunct. This collective focused on sampling drum breaks from old vinyl and editing them on an Akai MPC 2000. MHE later emerged as a duo that advanced their production techniques by engineering and recording sounds using vintage vacuum tube and transistor analog gear. Currently, the core members include Michael Raymond Russell, Andrew David Barragan (ADB), and Danny Ray Barragan (DRB), who are part of a collective and bespoke library record label. Their roster features artists influenced by funk, psychedelic rock, and European library music, creating minimal sound productions that are sampler-friendly for DJs, turntablists, producers, and for use in television and cinema scores.
