**Mi-Sex** Formed in 1978 in Hamilton, New Zealand, Mi-Sex emerged from an earlier band called Fragments of Time, which was a continuation of Father Time. Both predecessor bands were known for their progressive rock style, characterized by solos and elaborate lighting effects. Following the punk explosion, they adapted their name to Mi-Sex, inspired by the Ultravox track "My Sex," to stay contemporary. Their debut single was released on EMI before they relocated to Australia, where their previous history as a cabaret and covers band was largely unknown. They achieved significant success with their hit "Computer Games," which topped the charts at the end of 1979. The band disbanded in 1984 and briefly reformed in 2011 before permanently reuniting in 2014. They released a new album, "Not from Here," in 2016, featuring vocalist Steve Balbi, who continues to lead the band alongside original keyboardist Murray Burns as of 2025. Notable events in their history include the death of lead singer Steve Gilpin in January 1992, as well as the passing of band members Kevin Stanton in May 2017 and Don Martin in August 2020.
