Michael Karoli (1948–2001) was a German guitarist, violinist, and founding member of the pioneering experimental rock band Can. A key architect of the group’s distinctive sound, he fused rock, jazz, and avant-garde elements into innovative, hypnotic compositions that helped define the “Krautrock” movement of the 1970s. Karoli’s fluid guitar work and boundary-pushing approach inspired generations of musicians across electronic and alternative genres, leaving a lasting imprint on modern music through his fearless exploration of rhythm, texture, and sonic freedom.
