Michael Chapman was an English singer-songwriter and guitarist born on January 24, 1941, in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. He passed away on September 10, 2021, in Brampton, England. A self-taught musician, Chapman supported himself through art college by performing in skiffle bands, strip clubs, and jazz trios, and even had a brief stint as a roadie for John Cage. He became a prominent figure on the Cornwall acoustic scene after leaving his teaching job at Bolton College of Art. In the late 1960s, he began his career on the London and Cornwall folk music circuits, recording his debut album in 1969. He initially released music through a label that produced three subsequent albums. After his 1971 album, he parted ways with his label and signed with a subsidiary of another label, where he began incorporating electric guitar and harder rhythms into his work. Throughout the early to mid-1970s, he released several albums, including one produced by Memphis legend. The 1980s were quieter for Chapman, as he continued to record for smaller labels and perform on the folk and club circuits. However, the late 1990s marked a resurgence in his career, earning critical acclaim and praise from fellow artists. In the 2000s, he explored his roots as a guitarist, releasing instrumental albums alongside his song-based works and touring the United States in 2011. In 2016, he celebrated fifty years
